ARTS & CULTURE
Rockland's culture extends beyond history into a rich and diverse arts community that features galleries, museums, theaters, live music, outdoor concerts, sculpture parks, cultural events, film festivals and more! Many well-known artists made Rockland County their home including world-renowned painter Edward Hopper; playwright Maxwell Anderson; German composer Kurt Weill, and legendary state and screen actress Helen Hayes.
Experience Broadway-quality performances at Penguin Repertory Theater in Stony Point. Visit the Lafayette Theatre in Suffern - Rockland's only historic single-screen, 1000-seat movie palace - featuring its original Wurlitzer theatre organ. Built in 1923, this nationally acclaimed movie theatre features first-run movies and hosts special events like its popular Big Scree Classic film shows.
Visit GARNER Arts Center - an artist-centered community - for great performances, gallery exhibits, events and festivals that take place throughout the year. Stop by Rockland Center for the Arts - the largest multi-arts center in the region, with three indoor gallery spaces and a 10 acre sculpture park which hosts exhibits, musical performances, literary and art panel discussions. The Center is also home to the Catherine Konner Sculpture Park - an outdoor exhibit space open daily.
Movie-buffs can attend our film festivals including the Nyack Film Festival, the JCC Rockland Film Festival, and the Northwest of NYC Film Festival, where they can meet some of today's best-known directors, producers and actors in the television and film production industry.
