Rockland was once home to members of the Delaware and Lenape Nations, and a key position for General George Washington’s Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Explore its landmarks and museums to understand how early Americans lived in the Hudson Valley. The Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site, where General Anthony Wayne defeated the British in a surprise attack on July 16, 1779, offers free activities and demonstrations on weekends between April and October.

Visit the Stony Point Lighthouse - the oldest lighthouse on the Hudson River, located at Stony Point Battlefield.

Located at Rockland Community College, the Holocaust Museum Center for Tolerance and Education’s mission is to educate, through the lens of the Holocaust, about the dangers of intolerance, to invoke critical thinking, and to inspire moral courage in the face of injustice. The Museum features exhibits and interactive displays about the Holocaust and offers educational programming and commemoration events. Open to the public Monday through Thursday 10:00am - 3:00pm.  

STONY POINT BATTLEFIELD & MUSEUM

Experience a Revolutionary War reenactment at the Stony Point Battlefield and Museum, site of the 1779 Battle of Stony Point. Also home to the Stony Point Lighthouse, the Hudson River's oldest lighthouse.

DeWint House & Museum, Tappan

Served as George Washington's headquarters on four separate occasions during the American Revolutionary War. Built in 1700, the DeWint House is one of the oldest surviving structures in Rockland County and is an outstanding example of Hudson Valley Dutch Colonial architecture.

Explore Mount Moore Cemetery in West Nyack, the final resting place to African American veterans dating back to the Civil War, the Spanish American War, and both World Wars.
