From Apples to Legacy: Dr. Davies Farm in National Geographic Traveller Food
The charm, heritage, and flavors of Rockland County are making international headlines, thanks to a feature in the Spring 2025 UK issue of National Geographic Traveller Food. At the heart of the spotlight is Dr. Davies Farm, a fourth-generation orchard and farm stand in Congers, NY, celebrated for its deep roots and enduring appeal.
The article features Chris Nevin, who today runs the farm her great-grandmother, Dr. Lucy Virginia Meriweather Davies established in 1891.
The magazine paints a picture of an authentic Hudson Valley experience: children laughing on tractor rides, locals gathering for food truck fare and live music on weekends, and city dwellers discovering the unexpected magic of apples picked straight from the tree. Visitors also get a taste of Red Barn Cidery’s small-batch hard ciders, including a popular rosé variety.
Rockland County Tourism officials see the feature as an invitation to take time to visit and learn about this lower Hudson Valley county.
“This article is a reminder of so many of the things that makes Rockland unique — our farms, our food, our families,” said Jenna Nazario, Director of Rockland County Tourism. “Dr. Davies Farm embodies the spirit of our region: welcoming, rooted in history, and full of flavor.”
As the Hudson Valley continues to grow as a culinary destination, Rockland County is proud to offer travelers a genuine taste — from the orchard to the table.
