If you’re planning a trip to New York City during Golden Week, consider spending a day or two “upstate,” in suburban Rockland County. With a variety of historic, outdoors, shopping and family-friendly attractions, you can find activities to interest everyone in your family or travel group. Here are five recommendations to get you started:

Stony Point Battlefield

Take a walk through history at the location of the Battle of Stony Point, one of the last Revolutionary War battles. Enjoy a scenic view of the Hudson River during the peak times of fall foliage with a beautiful backdrop of the mountains. Don’t forget to visit the museum that offers exhibits on the Battle of Stony Point and the Stony Point Lighthouse.

Tallman Mountain State Park
Tallman Mountain overlooks the Hudson and Piermont Marsh. What better way to enjoy a crisp fall day than by taking a hike and enjoying some nice views? The park also offers a running track, tennis courts, playfield, cross country skiing, a walking trail, hiking and picnic areas.

The Shops at Nanuet

Want to enjoy shopping during your visit? The Shops at Nanuet is a premier outdoor shopping center with a variety of retailers including: Coach, Michael Kors, Ann Taylor, Lululemon Athletica, Apple, Banana Republic, J.Crew and many more.

Torne Valley Vineyards
Torne Valley, located in Hillburn, offers all-day wine tasting on Saturdays and Sundays with live music in the on-site café. Enjoy trying a variety of red and white wines including: Chardonnay, Cabernet and Riesling. The historic estate opened to the public in 2011 to offer an elegant experience to its visitors.
